Having trouble keeping track of the correct portion sizes? Well, there is a plate on the market that is designed to provide you with visual clues as to how much of each food you should eat. There are pictures of the specific food types, arrows, circles, a tape measure, etc., all painted with the hope of making it easier for you to manage your food intake. repsfbxcontinuous
A six month study was conducted with 130 people with type 2 diabetes. These people were divided into two groups - those that would use the plate and those that would not use the plate. At the end of this six-month period, 17% of the subjects using the plate lost 5% or more of their body weight. Only 4.6% of the other group lost this same amount of weight. Researchers concluded that “the portion control tool studied was effective in inducing weight loss”. Portion control at mealtime is an important aspect of weight management, but it can often be trumped by the mindless snacking and overeating that takes place in between meals.
