Whether you’ve been working out for quite some time and are no longer seeing results, or if you are just bored and frustrated with your current routine, there may be a solution for you - CrossFit. CrossFit is a training protocol founded by former gymnast Greg Glassman. It is growing in popularity because of its strong influence among the sports and athletic community.

A Medley of Efficient Training Strategies
CrossFit incorporates ten basic elements of fitness - speed, agility, strength, endurance, power, accuracy, stamina, coordination, flexibility, and cardio. It is a blend of a number of different training techniques, including traditional cardio, gymnastics, bodyweight exercises, Olympic style weightlifting, rowing, and kettlebell training. The focus of the program is on functional movements, which are movement patterns that occur during the activities we perform on a daily basis, done at a high intensity. These functional movements are done with constant variation to continually challenge and push the body to achieve optimal fitness. This keeps your body guessing so that you avoid hitting plateaus that keep you from progressively seeing results. Another component of the program is the timing - because the exercises engage the entire body, less time is required to complete a full workout. On average, sessions range from 15 - 20 minutes.
Fitness for All
Anyone can participate in CrossFit training because the workouts are designed so that both the typical sedentary person and a hardcore athlete can perform them, with modifications in the load used and intensity levels. This sort of scalability makes it ideal for people of all ages and fitness levels, even kids, who may have a number of different goals, such as losing weight, increasing athletic performance, and even physical rehabilitation.
A Sense of Community
CrossFit training is usually done in a group setting with a coach guiding you and pushing you along the way. Working out alongside others creates a form of camaraderie and healthy competition among crossfitters. This type of support system and accountability is that missing element for many people that have trouble staying motivated and committed to their fitness routines.
Give it a Chance
If you are looking to take your workouts to new heights, you should give CrossFit a try. It is a well-rounded, results-oriented method of training that can help you lose weight, lower your body fat percentage, strengthen and condition your body, and improve your overall fitness. Because it consists of fast-paced, hardcore workouts, you may need to take it slow in the beginning. Find a qualified coach in your area that will show you how to tailor the movements to match your fitness level and who will work with you on your form and technique. Also, be sure to consult a physician before starting any new exercise program.
